During the pilot project, in which getting on public transport was organized through front doors, the number of registered trips increased by 20%
„Rīgas satiksme” informs that during the pilot project, in which getting on public transport was organized through front doors, the number of registered trips increased by 20%. Given these positive results, from January 1, 2020, this order, i.e. getting on public transport through front doors and getting off through middle and rear doors, will be introduced as permanent on trolleybus No. 1 and bus routes No. 10, 20, 28 and 60. From February 1, it will be also introduced on trolleybus route No. 13 and bus routes No. 34, 35, 43, 47 and 54.
We remind that the pilot project was launched on July 8. As part of the project, passengers were allowed to get on trolleybus No. 1 and on buses No. 10, 20, 28 and 60 through front doors only. The pilot project aimed to increase the number of registered trips by 15%, yet the results showed an increase of more than 20% on the above routes. On July 8 – October 31 this year, 586 113 trips were registered, compared to 486 589 trips registered during the same period last year.
The goal of the project was also to change passengers’ habits so that they register every trip, to reduce the number of fare dodgers, as well as to count precisely the number of passengers as required by laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia. The introduction of such order also helps to reduce the number of passengers in smeary and stinking clothes.
“Rīgas satiksme” reminds that on these routes passengers have to register their trip at the driver’s console, so that the driver could check that everybody registers his/her trip. The order does not change for passengers with baby carriages and in wheelchairs – they get on through middle doors.
